One of the dirty little secrets of Phish tour is that phans often struggle to bring the inspiration of our magical nights with the band into daily life. The responsibilities and challenges of adulthood can become a frustrating series of events that often cannot live up to the glorious highs of transcendent nights chasing Phish jams across the country. As we get older, the dichotomy of tour life and down time becomes less and less enjoyable and less and less acceptable within the framework of our lives.
In high school and college, even young adulthood, it seemed like we could make ends meet and build our life around Phish tour.
When Phish returned in 2009 it was with a reprioritized value system, the physical and spiritual health of band members became primary.
Life asks more of us than to be narrowly focused in intention and purpose. We can truly celebrate and honor the power that Phish has stoked in our hearts by infusing this inspiration into making a commitment to our physical, emotional, and spiritual well being. 2011 has been a special year for the entire Phish community only because band members made this commitment wholeheartedly. What are you waiting for?
YOGA'S HELPING FRIENDLY BOOK
Like Phish, yoga has its own "Helping Friendly Book" called the Bhagavad Gita. The Gita is one of the foundational texts of yoga philosophy and is a great place to begin if you've never read that kind of stuff before.
For more on the Gita and other yoga texts check out our Resources section.
As someone who has been following Phish around the country for several years and is more recently a teacher and student of yoga, there is nothing better than blending these worlds.
